1. Summary

On January 2023, 1, the Tokyo Consortium will provide startups and the various players that support startups (companies, VCs, universities, local governments, etc.) with information on the elements and approaches necessary to capture overseas markets and grow. We held an event to build momentum to deepen understanding of support, etc. On the day of the event, Mr. Yamaguchi, Executive Officer and CSO of TBM Co., Ltd., took the stage and gave a lecture on ``The history and future challenges of new material startups in the green area.'' This event was held online and approximately 6 people participated.

2. Event implementation overview

(1) Innovation trends and business explanation in the green area (secretariat)

We provided an overview of the Tokyo Consortium, our past initiatives, and the start of green startup support. While climate change requires urgent action worldwide, it can be used not only as a negative but also as a business opportunity. In order to achieve sustainability, including carbon neutrality, it is necessary to build an ecosystem that collaborates with many stakeholders, and as a Tokyo Consortium, we are starting to support green startups, which is an area of ​​future growth.

(2) “The history and future challenges of new material startups in the green area” (Mr. Yamaguchi, TBM Co., Ltd.)

In the lecture, he introduced the details and background of TBM Co., Ltd.'s two businesses: "Materials & Products Business" and "Resource Recycling Business."

■ Regarding the "Material Products Business," the company introduced "LIMEX," a new material made from limestone as the main raw material, using unique technology. LIMEX is currently being used by more than 10,000 companies and local governments as an alternative to various plastic and paper products such as printed matter, bags, food containers, stationery, toys, household goods, packaging, and labels, and is expanding globally. Masu. By deploying LIMEX, we aim to contribute to resource conservation and climate change by reducing the amount of scarce resources that are at high risk of depletion.

■ Regarding the ``Resource Recycling Business,'' this is a model that allows LIMEX and waste plastics that have once been distributed to be collected and recycled, and recycled as raw materials for the next material. By handling everything from collection to recycling in-house, we are building a recyclable platform and maximizing business potential. We are not limited to our position as a materials manufacturer; we are developing products using the recycled material "CirculeX," building a resource circulation platform business that combines internal and external resources in the right place, and expanding our own recycling plants domestically and internationally. By doing so, we aim to promote resource circulation.

■ He also introduced the history of TBM's business development in new materials and resource recycling. We talked about TBM's business development based on ecology and economy, and the process behind replacing plastics, replacing paper, and recycling these materials.

■Finally, he talked about the key points of business development in the green sustainability field, and explained the five points of promoting open innovation, collaborating with existing industries, utilizing diverse human resources, utilizing digital technology, and approaching social issues. He gave us the latest information on how TBM is addressing these points.

■ A lively exchange of opinions took place during the question-and-answer session, and we received many questions about our experiences and key points in expanding overseas, points of focus for TBM's business, and the direction of future initiatives.
